Diagnostic Accuracy of Hyomental Distance Ratio (HMDR) for Prediction of Difficult Laryngoscopy in Patients Undergoing Surgery Under General Anesthesia Using Tracheal Intubation

چکیده
Background: To keep the airway open, a flexible plastic tube (ETT) is inserted into trachea during tracheal intubation. Even when done correctly, intubation requires much clinical experience, and catastrophic problems can occur. Mandibular space has been estimated using hyomental distance (HMD), although HMD only found to provide limited amount of diagnostic accuracy on its own. In order determine how well Hyomental Distance Ratio (HMDR) predicts difficult laryngoscopy, we conducted this study. Objectives: Using Cormack Lehane classification as gold standard, objective assess validity for prediction challenging laryngoscopy in patients undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia. Materials & Methods: The department anesthesiology operating rooms at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore cross-sectional study over course six months 2015–2016. approach non-probability purposive sampling was applied. Informed consent acquired, patient demographics were recorded. researcher herself then assessed HDMR. if had or normal HDMR determined. After that, performed patients. If vocal cords visible, mouth opened, case (CL), with easy being designated. SPSS version 20 used enter analyse all data. Results: our mean age 43.23 11.63 years male female ratio 1.5:1. study, 43.91% an HDR HDR's sensitivity 95.05%, specificity 96.12%, 95.65% CL standard. Practical Implication: According strategy be applied accurately other hospitals. Government should establish guidelines most trustworthy techniques benchmark healthcare settings. Conclusion: findings HMDR viable tool anticipating having anaesthesia Keywords: Laryngoscopy, intubation, Classification,

Hyomental distance in the different head positions and hyomental distance ratio in predicting difficult intubation.
The hyomental distance ratio (HMDR) is the ratio between the hyomental distance (HMD) (the distance between the hyoid bone and the tip of the chin) at the extreme of head extension (HMDe) and the one in the neutral position (HMDn). The objective of the study was to examine the predictive value, sensitivity, and specificity of HMDe, HMDn, and HMDR in predicting difficult endotracheal intubation ...

BACKGROUND The hyomental distance ratio is defined as the ratio of the hyomental distances in neutral position and at head extension. The aim of the study was to establish the diagnostic utility as predictor of difficult intubation. METHODS In a cross-sectional study, the assessment of the airway was performed in 70 patients (35 male and 35 female, 15-75 years old) undergoing general anesthes...

INTRODUCTION Since anesthesia complications associated with unexpected difficult airway are potentially catastrophic, they should be avoided. The modified Mallampati test and jaw-thrust maneuver enable the identification of difficult airway. The aim of this study was to associate the modified Mallampati test and the jaw-thrust maneuver with laryngoscopy (Cormack-Lehane) in an attempt to identif...

background: increase in intraocular pressure (iop) following tracheal intubation during general anesthesia can be troublesome. we compared the influence of two muscle relaxants, cisatracurium and atracurium, on iop in patients undergoing general anesthesia. methods: this randomized, double-blind, comparative trial was conducted on 90 candidates for elective non-ophthalmic surgery under general ...
متن کاملExpected difficult tracheal intubation: a prospective comparison of direct laryngoscopy and video laryngoscopy in 200 patients.
BACKGROUND The Berci-Kaplan video laryngoscope was developed to improve the visualization of the glottis and ease tracheal intubation. Whether this technique is also effective in patients with an expected difficult intubation is unclear. We have prospectively evaluated the conditions and success rate of tracheal intubation in patients with a Mallampati score of III or IV. METHODS Two hundred ...
